Allapattah CRA Gets City Start-Up Money as County Dispute Continues
The proposed Allapattah Community Redevelopment Agency got city money to start work before its own funding comes in, after a morning of public comment from residents asking the city not to delay.

The proposed Allapattah Community Redevelopment Agency got city money to start work before its own funding comes in, after a morning of public comment from residents asking the city not to delay. The Commission approved item RE 4 unanimously, with the expectation that the CRA will repay the general fund once it generates revenue.
The county question. Speakers said the city sent its request for CRA powers to Miami-Dade County on Nov. 3, 2025, and that under state law the request is considered granted if the county doesn't act within 120 days, a deadline they said passed March 3, 2026. The item's sponsor said the city expects to prevail in the related lawsuit. One speaker opposed creating another CRA.
The debate. Commissioners argued over fairness among districts: a separate $3.5 million allocation for another district, a request that District 5 get equal treatment, and how surplus dollars are shared. Staff said the $3.5 million reflects what was left in last year's surplus estimate and that other requests depend on this year's closeout.
What's next. The CRA's trust fund was created on final vote at the Oct. 8 meeting.
Reported from the Sept. 24, 2026 City of Miami Commission meeting.
