County Commissioners Push Back on 'Vice City' Marketing Deal
A marketing partnership tied to Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto VI, set in a fictional 'Vice City' modeled on Miami, drew a long debate at the County Commission.

A marketing partnership tied to Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto VI, set in a fictional 'Vice City' modeled on Miami, drew a long debate at the County Commission. Some commissioners said the game misrepresents the community, and others said the deal brings in money from a release that will happen regardless.
The money and the process. Commissioners questioned why the deal came in at about $900,000, just under the $1 million threshold that would have required board approval, and said they learned of it from social media. Others pointed to the county's history of film incentives for shows set in Miami. A proposal to steer future revenue to the sheriff's office or the Peace and Prosperity Plan was discussed.
What passed. The board approved a motion directing the administration to bring negotiations above its delegated authority back to the board, even after the fact. A second motion would bar future deals selling county assets for marketing the game.
