County Moves to Take Over Septic Permitting From the State
Miami-Dade is moving to run its own septic program.

Miami-Dade is moving to run its own septic program. An ordinance adopting state rules to implement the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's delegation of on-site sewage authority to the county passed first reading, with the public hearing set for the Oct. 20 meeting. The program had been handled by the state Department of Health.
What was said. The Builders Association said the change brings the county closer to one-stop permitting. A student speaker asked the county to put septic permit records on a public online map and report on neighborhoods with the most failing tanks.
What's next. Second reading on Oct. 20.
Reported from the Oct. 6, 2026 Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners meeting.
