The County Commission voted to hold off on spending more on closing the burned-down Resources Recovery waste-to-energy site in Doral until the county negotiates with the City of Doral over what the city will contribute. The motion was offered by a commissioner who argued that the work protects Doral property values.

The other side. Staff said the money on the table covers demolition, not remediation, whose cost is still unknown, and that the county is on a deadline from DERM to close the site. Closing it does not rule out reactivating the property; no waste-to-energy permits exist there now. Staff also noted a pending lawsuit.

What's next. Staff will report back at a future meeting and contact Doral about the urgency. Public-safety work can continue.

Reported from the Oct. 6, 2026 Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners meeting.
